There’s little uncertainty that difficulties plague many old houses. Among the most important problems, whether the house is historical or modern, is the risk of water damage.
Occasionally the damage is fairly clear, and can be readily seen by the untrained eye. But additionally, it may be quite a subtle issue that creeps up on you, before you even recognize it is there creating major destruction.
I truly wish I’d understood before I went into my first old house the best way to find the subtle hints. It’d have saved me a whole lot of hassle, to not mention kept more cash. Here’s a listing of hints you can have damage, in the clear
1. Water spots. That telltale spot on wall or the ceiling is an apparent sign. If it unexpectedly pops up, it is time to get an expert into your house where the water came from and learn. You see water spots and should you be looking into buying a vintage house, be careful. Require evidence the supply of the damage was fixed.
2. Buckling walls and floors. That is another indication that is quite clear, and it’s frequently the mark of an extensive issue. The result is a buckling when you walk over the place you could see or feel. This can occur for example through a little shower leak over time, or it can occur all at the same time, particularly after a significant thunderstorm.
3. Crumbling places. Pay focus on the region around the windows. Can you see wood that is crumbling?
